The price for the upcoming season has decreased by $13 (10.6%) compared to last year's record high of $135 per ton.
Despite the decrease, the current price is still 44% higher than the average price over the previous three years (2020-2022), which was $85 per ton.
Production and Economic Impact
The indicative price represents a weighted average for tomatoes destined for paste production in major processing regions, including California, Chile, China, Egypt, France, Greece, Northern and Southern Italy, Portugal, and Spain.
These regions are expected to produce approximately 33.9 million tons of tomatoes, accounting for 71% of the projected total production for the next season.
The estimated total value of the global tomato harvest is approximately $5.8 billion.
